How to replace the Automatic Transmission Shifter lever on 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?

The first process for replacing an automatic transmission shift lever requires disabling the sir system through proper precautions. A shift lever seal must slide up along the shift lever before removing the steering column trim covers. Detach the shift lever connector near the column base followed by shifting out the shift lever screw from the shift lever assembly in order to remove both the shift lever and seal from the column. The shift lever seal needs to be moved toward the tight area of the shift lever for removal. Mount the shift lever seal onto the shift lever assembly directing it to the thin end and position the assembly before securing it with the shift lever screw . Tighten this screw to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Move the shift lever seal toward the narrow shift lever section before aligning it with the steering column trim cover pieces when reinstalling them as needed. Finally, enable the sir system.
