    Q:
How to replace the Automatic Transmission Shifter lever on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
First disable the restraints system when replacing the shift lever that functions in automatic transmission. Move the shift lever seal to the top of the shift lever then proceed to eliminate the steering column trim covers when needed. The shift lever connector must be dismounted from its base at the column while the shift lever screw must be removed from the assembly. Use caution to retrieve both the shift lever and its associated seal from the linear shift assembly by pulling them along the narrow area of the shift lever. Insert the shift lever seal to the small area of the shift lever before putting the shift lever assembly on the linear shift assembly. Screw the shift lever screw into position inside the shift lever assembly and use torque to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Push the shift lever seal down the shift lever assembly until it matches the positioning of the steering column trim covers. Complete the operation by installing any needed steering column trim covers followed by activating the restraints system.
