How to replace the Automatic Transmission Shifter lever on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?

A procedure to replace automatic transmission shift lever begins by disabling the sir system. The shift lever seal must slide upward on the shift lever then the steering column trim covers must be removed if required. Separate the shift lever connector at the bottom of the column before removing the shift lever screw from the assembly. Remove the shift lever with careful movements from the column while moving the shift lever seal towards the restricted end of the shift lever. Position the shift lever seal at the narrow end of the shift lever assembly after which you should place the shift lever assembly in position. Fit the shift lever screw into the shift lever assembly before tightening it to 1.5 nm (13 in. Lbs.). The shift lever seal needs to slide down the shift lever assembly before aligning it into the steering column trim covers. Complete the work by putting back the steering column trim covers and enabling the sir system if needed.
