2003 Chevrolet Venture Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2003 Chevrolet Venture?
A: You should start the Evaporator core replacement process by taking out the hvac module assembly and freeing the Evaporator temperature sensor connector from the air inlet housing and unscrewing the housing from the module. Begin the procedure by removing screws from both mounting brackets of the right hvac module assembly, then the bracket followed by the upper hvac module retaining screw located underneath the right bracket. Start by detaching the sound barrier seal from the dash panel before you take out the screws holding the heater outlet duct and its corresponding duct piece. After removing the Heater Core cover there is a sequential order to extricate the Heater Core pipe retaining screw before removing the Heater Core itself. Start the hvac module repair by splitting the upper and lower halves with the lower hvac module assembly retaining screw situated under the Heater Core and additional removal of remaining screws in the same assembly. The upper hvac module case half requires removal of the Evaporator core following the Evaporator temperature sensor and txv mounting screws to extract the txv from the Evaporator core where sealing washers should be thrown out. Position the Evaporator temperature sensor 3.5 cm (1.4 in) away from the core side and 5 cm (2.0 in) away from the bottom corner before installing it. When adding pag oil to the new Evaporator core use the exact amount recommended by the manufacturer. Additionally clean both a/c refrigerant hose and component surfaces with a lint-free cloth before inserting the new sealing washers onto the Evaporator line until it reaches the correct position. Secure the txv on the Evaporator core by fastening its mounting screws to 3.2 n.m tension setting (28 lb in torque). The Evaporator temperature sensor wires must be positioned properly through the upper hvac module case opening to prevent wire damage before installment of the upper hvac module case half for the Evaporator core. Connect the upper module case to the lower module case while using the lower hvac module assembly retaining screws which should be tightened to 0.9 n.m (8 lb in) followed by the lower hvac module assembly retaining screw. Reinstall the Heater Core and fasten it properly using the Heater Core pipe retaining screw which needs a torque of 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). Afterward attach the Heater Core cover together with its screws torqued to 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). Reinstall the heater outlet duct and its screws with 0.9 n.m (8 lb in) torque before attaching the hvac module assembly to the dash panel sound barrier seal and tightening the upper retaining screw at 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). Finally, re-install the right side hvac mounting bracket and its screws at 1.8 n.m (16 lb in torque) then apply the air inlet housing to the module by securing retaining screws at 0.9 n.m (8 lb in). Finally, connect the temperature sensor cable with the air inlet housing before installing the module.
