2003 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: You must disconnect the negative cable from the battery while following battery disconnect caution procedures. The procedure begins with cleaner assembly removal along with Drive Belt separation and regulator electrical connector disconnection. Begin by dismantling the generator through removal of the front mounting bolts followed by the rear mounting bolt and then unscrewing the generator output (BAT) terminal nut. To begin installation position the generator where it will sit on the vehicle and put in the mounting bolts without tightening them. Fasten the generator output lead (BAT) followed by a loose attachment of generator output lead (BAT) nut. Apply 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque to the mounting bolts and set the generator output (BAT) terminal nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in). First, attach the regulator electrical connector then install the Drive Belt followed by reinstallation of the air cleaner before joining the battery negative cable.
