2003 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2003 GMC Safari?
A: Start by turning OFF the ignition before removing the engine cover during Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor replacement. Before sensor removal drain the coolant down to ECT sensor level then detach the wiring connector and extract the sensor with proper care. After threading with sealer GM P/N 9985253 or equivalent you should install the ECT sensor while applying 20 N.m (15 lb ft) torque. After attaching the ECT sensor harness connector to the ECT sensor you must complete cooling system refilling and install the engine cover. Handle the coolant sensor with caution since sensor damage can cause fuel control system failures. Install each fastener according to instructions in the Component Fastener Tightening Notice.
