2004 Buick Century Fan Shroud Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fan shroud on 2004 Buick Century?
A: The replacement of Fan Shroud begins by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable together with the cooling fan electrical connector followed by cooling system draining. The replacement process begins with removal of lh and rh engine mount strut braces together with air cleaner and duct assembly and Radiator inlet hose from the Radiator. First remove the powertrain control module harness from the Fan Shroud clip before disconnecting the cooling Fan Shroud bolts. Climb under the vehicle after supporting it properly then unlock the push pin retainer from the left side of the Fan Shroud while also removing the transmission oil cooler lines from the retainer clip positioned at the bottom of the cooling Fan Shroud. Lower the vehicle and remove first the cooling Fan Shroud clip from the Radiator top before proceeding to detach the Radiator upper support brackets which link to the Fan Shroud. Take out the Fan Motor heat shields at positions l36 and l67 before removing the cooling Fan Shroud component. Check the cooling fan blades for damages along with inspecting the mating surfaces for smoothness while removing any imperfections that might exist. The first step includes taking out both cooling Fan Blade nuts and blades then moving to removing the cooling Fan Motor bolts followed by motor installation. The installation process begins with Fan Motor incorporation followed by securing it through 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) tightened bolts. Proceed to install the cooling fan blades with nuts set to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) followed by the cooling Fan Shroud and its top clip that needs full engagement. The installation of the cooling Fan Shroud bolts follows manufacturer specifications at 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). Then elevate the vehicle while supporting it and attach the push pin retainer to its lower left side. First lower the vehicle along with reconnecting the transmission oil cooler lines to the retainer beneath the cooling Fan Shroud. Then install the Fan Motor heat shields l36 and l67 before hopping up the vehicle. Install all Radiator upper support brackets with bolts which secure the Fan Shroud while tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The cooling fan electrical connector needs attachment and the Radiator inlet hose installation before fitting the air cleaner and duct assembly. The last steps include connecting the pcm harness to the Fan Shroud clip and reinstalling the lh and rh engine mount strut braces before filling the cooling system and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
