Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2004 Buick Century?
A: To replace the upper Intake Manifold, do the following first: disconnect the negative Battery Cable as well as the removal of the air cleaner intake duct. Next, remove the accelerator controls cable bracket with accelerator control cables and the cruise control cables. The vacuum hoses should also be detached from the Fuel Pressure Regulator, evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve, manifold vacuum source, brake booster to the upper Intake Manifold, and windshield washer system. Unplug the electrical connectors of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), mass air flow (MAF) sensor, idle air control (IAC) valve, throttle position (T/P) sensor, and evap canister purge valve. Drain the cooling system and note off the left side Spark Plug Wires from the Spark Plug. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor wiring harness, left side Spark Plug wire harness and the engine wiring harness from their retainers. Eliminate the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses (3,4) from the Throttle Body, the ignition coil bracket with the coils, the evap canister purge valve, the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and its bracket, as well as the EGR Valve. Remove the upper Intake Manifold bolts and stud followed by removing the upper Intake Manifold along with the gaskets. If changing upper Intake Manifold, remove also Throttle Body and clean the surface of upper intake gasket mating. For installation, if the Throttle Body was removed, install then followed by upper Intake Manifold gaskets and upper Intake Manifold itself. If there is access under the valve cover, tighten the upper Intake Manifold bolts and the stud to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), and then install the EGR Valve, map sensor bracket and senor, and the evap canister purge valve. Restow the ignition coil bracket with the coils, and put the thermostat bypass pipe coolant hoses (3, 4) at the Throttle Body. Secure left side Spark Plug wire harness and camshaft position (CMP) sensor wiring harness to their retainers as well as the engine wiring harness. Tighten the throttle cable, engine control module sensor connector to the crankshaft speed sensor, return vacuum hose to the Intake Manifold, remove heater hoses in the engine compartment and repair the heater hoses.serting force..facilitate the wise, and touch face plug wires to the spark plugs; connect the electrical connectors to the evap canister purge valve position (T/P) sensor on the idle air control. Finally, reconnect to the windshield washer system vacuum hoses, brake booster to upper Intake Manifold, manifold vacuum source, evap canister purge valve and Fuel Pressure Regulator then reinstall the accelerator controls cable bracket with the accelerator control and cruise control cables, and air cleaner intake duct and reconnect negative Battery Cable, then fill the cooling system.
