2004 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2004 Buick Regal?
A: The replacement of the positive cable begins by disconnecting both the negative battery cable followed by removal of the positive cable from the battery. Start by detaching the ground wire bolt from the frame followed by the removal of the remote positive stud cover together with the junction block lead nut from the positive battery cable. Secondly take the positive battery cable from the bussed electrical center (BEC) before removing the BEC from the strut tower. The technician should disconnect the BEC positive battery cable harness and raise the vehicle before support. First disconnect the starter motor BAT terminal and transaxle stud nut together with the front lower air deflector and positive battery cable and the ground cable from the transaxle stud. Remove the battery cable harness from its retainers while unclipping the cable harness to be taken out of the vehicle. Finish the installation by taking away the positive battery cable from its conduit attachment. The first installation step must begin by guiding the positive battery cable into the wiring harness conduit before attaching the battery cable harness to its vehicle retainers. After positioning the ground cable on the transaxle stud tighten its nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft). Fasten the starter motor BAT terminal with a positive battery cable while tightening the nut to reach 9.5 N.m (84 lb in). After vehicle lowering and front lower air deflector reinstallation follow the process of positive battery cable harness installation onto the BEC then to the strut tower. Fasten the junction block lead nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in) as you link the positive battery cable to the BEC. Reinstall the ground wire along with its frame bolt while tightening the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in). After that, connect the positive battery cable to the battery by tightening the terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Reestablish the connection of the negative battery cable to complete the procedure.
