Battery Cable

When changing out battery cables, be sure to replace the ones with the same gauge, length, routing, and type of cables as the old ones deserve. Start by unbefriending the battery negative cable from the battery. Second, pull off the battery negative cable bolt and cable from the frame rail at the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Lift and prop the vehicle accordingly. Remove the front lower air deflector, then remove transaxle stud nut and negative cable from the transaxle stud off the bat. Unhook the battery cable retainers from the radiator support and unplug the wiring harness conduit from the retainers along with the battery negative cable from the conduit. For installation, install battery negative cable into the wiring harness conduit and tighten retainers to the radiator support. Mount the battery negative cable and the stud nut of the transaxle to the transaxle stud and tighten the nut to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft). Reinstall the lower front air deflector, lower the vehicle, and connect the battery negative cable and bolt to the frame rail with a bolt and a torque of 8 N.m (71 lb in). Lastly, link the negative battery cable to the battery.

Start by ensuring the vehicle's ignition key sits in OFF or LOCK and all electrical load systems are disconnected to avoid injury damage. Documnet all stored presets for radio stations and note down the radio Theftlock(R) code if present. Touch off all lights and vehicle accessories and unplug the battery negative cable from the battery. A wire brush should be used to clean away the oxidation from the battery terminal contacts and cables before connecting the negative battery cable to the battery while tightening the terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Unlock the Theftlock(R) radio if it has a protection feature and restore the radio stations before setting the current time on the clock.

To disconnect and connect the battery negative cable, first, make sure all lamps and accessories are switched off and the Ignition Switch is off. Remove the negative cable of the battery from the battery. Before reconnected clean the exist oxidation at the contact face at battery terminal and Battery Cable using a wire brush. Then, attach the battery negative cable onto the battery and secure the battery negative terminal bolt at 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Safety precautions are extremely important because the vehicle's supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system has the potential to cause a deployment of air bag and personal injury or unnecessary repairs. Always also remove sir system before serving its components or wiring and checking that the ignition key is off and all the electrical loads off when working at any electrical component. If there is any risk of personal contact of a live exposed electrical terminal, remove negative Battery Cable to prevent injuries or damages.

Set the clock and reprogram the radio stations as recorded earlier.

Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face using a wire brush.

Detach the positive battery cable from the bussed electrical center (BEC) and remove the BEC from the strut tower.

Reinstall the front lower air deflector, lower the vehicle, and attach the battery positive cable along with the battery (positive) cable junction block lead nut to the underhood accessory wiring junction block, tightening the lead nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

Remove the ground cable from the transaxle stud and unclip the battery cable harness from the retainers before taking it out of the vehicle.

Remove the battery negative cable bolt and the cable from the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block.

Install the BEC to the strut tower.

Remove the ground wire bolt from the frame, the remote positive stud cover, and the junction block lead nut from the positive battery cable.

Take off the battery (positive) cable from the starter motor BAT terminal.
