- Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2002 Buick Century?A: The process begins with negating the negative battery cable before negating the positive battery cable from the battery. First remove the ground wire bolt from the frame and then remove the remote positive stud cover and finally the positive battery cable junction block lead nut. Start by disconnecting the positive battery cable from the bussed electrical center (BEC) before pulling out the BEC from the strut tower. Detach the positive battery cable harness from the BEC by unclipping it before supporting the vehicle. Remove the front lower air deflector and the positive cable of the starter motor from its BAT terminal while removing protective boot coverage from the generator output terminal. Start by detaching the generator output BAT terminal nut and positive battery cable from the generator before unclipping and removing the battery cable harness from its retainers and vehicle. Take the negative battery cable out of the wiring harness conduit as your final step. After placing the negative battery cable into the wiring harness conduit install the battery cable harness to both the vehicle and its retainers. Secure the positive battery cable to the generator while tightening its generator output BAT terminal nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The generator output BAT terminal requires a protective boot before connecting the positive battery cable to the starter motor BAT terminal with 10 N.m (89 lb in) torque. Secure the front lower air deflector before lowering the vehicle and connecting the POS battery cable harness to the BEC and BEC to the strut tower. Fasten the junction block lead with its nut until you reach 10 N.m of torque (89 lb in). The technician installs the ground wire and bolt to the frame and secures the bolt at 10 N.m (89 lb in). Next, they connect the positive battery cable to the battery with a 15 N.m (11 lb ft) torque, followed by connecting the negative battery cable.
