2002 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2002 Buick Century?
A: The Starter motor replacement process starts by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable then raising and supporting the vehicle and removing two Starter bolts. Start by removing both the front lower air deflector together with the torque converter covers. The first procedure when replacing the Starter motor is to detach the positive Battery Cable at the Starter motor by removing the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut which should be followed by removing the Starter solenoid s terminal nut for disconnecting the Starter solenoid wire. Starting by removing Starter bolts (1,2) you can extract the Starter motor with all attached shims. The correct Starter motor must be chosen since the pg260 d Starter motor fits the 3.1l model. Insert Starter motor into engine position and replace any left-over shims when reinstalling Starter bolts (1,2). Start by installing the Starter bolts (1,2) just tightly enough to sit in place before tightening them to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). First connect the positive Battery Cable before installing its bat terminal nut tightly with fingers followed by wiring the Starter solenoid to s terminal nut installation. Attach the solenoid bat terminal nut to 9.5 n.m (84 lb in) torque while tightening the Starter solenoid s terminal nut to 2.3 n.m (20.4 lb in). After repairing and tightening the torque converter covers the front lower air deflector must be installed and the vehicle should be lowered before installing the negative Battery Cable.
