2002 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace battery cables on 2002 Buick Regal?
A: Always replace battery cables with new ones having identical type, gage and length specifications. The first step should be disconnecting the negative battery cable while disconnecting the positive battery cable from the battery. First disconnect the frame ground wire bolt and both the remote positive stud cover as well as the junction block lead nut from the positive battery cable. Detach the positive battery cable from the bussed electrical center (BEC) before you take out the BEC from its strut tower position. First raise and support the vehicle while removing the BEC positive battery cable harness through its unhindered clips. First disconnect the front lower air deflector together with starter motor BAT terminal positive cable and generator output BAT terminal protective boot. Remove the BAT terminal nut followed by the positive battery cable from the generator while also unclipping and removing the battery cable harness from the vehicle's retainers. Complete the procedure by taking off the positive battery cable from its conduit position. Start by inserting the positive battery cable through the wiring harness conduit and attach the battery cable harness to both the vehicle and its retainers. The generator requires a positive battery cable connection followed by a tight installation of the output BAT terminal nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Afterwards, the protective boot must be secured to the generator output BAT terminal. After that, establish a battery connection between starter motor BAT terminal and fasten its nut to achieve 10 N.m (84 lb in). Reinstall the front lower air deflector, lower the vehicle, then attach the positive battery cable harness to the BEC before installation of the BEC onto the strut tower. The BEC should get installed on the strut tower followed by connecting a positive battery cable to the BEC while tightening the junction block lead nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in). The installer must follow this order: place the remote positive stud cover then connect the ground wire and frame bolt while tightening it to 10 N.m (89 lb in). The last step includes connecting the positive battery cable to the battery terminal then tightening the bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft) before reconnecting the negative battery cable.
