2002 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on 2002 Buick Regal?
A: Start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable before replacing the Starter motor which requires entire unit replacement. Start by lifting the vehicle then removing both the front lower air deflector and the torque converter covers before proceeding. Start by removing the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut that disconnects the positive Battery Cable then remove the s terminal nut at the Starter motor to disconnect the Starter solenoid wire. Start by removing Starter bolts (1,2) from the motor and extracting any existing shims for replacement. The correct Starter motor must be chosen for installation: a pg260 g Starter motor works with the 3.8l (L36) engine but the 3.8l (L67) needs a pg260 l Starter motor. Reinstall removed shims when you position the Starter motor to match engine alignment. When the Starter bolts (1,2) reach their seating position tighten them to 43 n.m (32 lb ft) using a spanner. First install the solenoid bat terminal and finger tighten the nut followed by connecting the Starter solenoid wire after installing the s terminal nut finger tight. Secure the solenoid bat terminal nut using 9.5 n.m torque (84 lb in) and stake the Starter solenoid s terminal nut at 2.3 n.m (20.4 lb in). The final steps include putting back the torque converter covers, installing the front lower air deflector then dropping the vehicle before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
