- Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2004 Buick Regal?A: Service and repair of the Starter motor begins by disconnecting the battery negative cable and safely elevating the vehicle. Begin by taking out the front lower air deflector panel and torque converter covers from the vehicle. Start by removing the bat terminal nut and positive Battery Cable from the Starter motor then disconnect the Starter solenoid s terminal nut and the Starter solenoid wire. Unscrew the Starter bolts (1,2) before removing the Starter motor from its installation position. The installer should position the Starter motor correctly then start installing the bolts (1,2) loosely until fully in place before torquing them to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Secure the Starter motor connection using the positive Battery Cable along with the solenoid bat terminal nut at just the right tension. As the following step connect the Starter solenoid wire and the Starter solenoid s terminal nut while securing both connections with a finger tight torque. Next follow the torque specification of 10 n.m (89 lb in) for the solenoid bat terminal nut then 3 n.m (27 lb in) for the Starter solenoid s terminal nut. Install torque converter covers while putting the front lower air deflector panel in position then lower the vehicle down before reinstalling the negative Battery Cable.
