    Q:
How to replace the starter motor on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
As a first step start by disconnecting the vehicle's negative Battery Cable. A Starter motor requires full replacement because it functions as an entire unit which cannot be serviced separately. Start by supporting the vehicle then remove both the lower air deflector and torque converter covers from the vehicle. Detach the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut first then disconnect the positive Battery Cable from the Starter motor. Next remove the Starter solenoid s terminal nut and Starter solenoid wire . First remove the bolts numbered 1 and 2 before extraction of the Starter motor. The installation process begins with starting the Starter motor alignment to the engine before tightening bolts (1,2) just until seated then torquing them to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Begin installation by connecting the positive Battery Cable to the solenoid bat terminal with finger tight tightening and proceeding with start the solenoid wire connected to the solenoid s terminal also with finger tight fastening. Before fully tightening these bolts use the following torque values: solenoid bat terminal nut at 10 n.m (89 lb in) and Starter solenoid s terminal nut at 2.3 n.m (20.5 lb in). Install the torque converter covers then the lower air deflector. Lower the vehicle and complete the process by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
