2004 Buick Regal Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve rocker arm and push rod on 2004 Buick Regal?
A: Service and repair of valve Rocker Arm and push rod requires the electronic torque angle meter (J 36660-A) as a necessary tool. The first step includes removing the left or right valve Rocker Arm cover together with the Rocker Arm bolts while placing every component on a clean surface for storage before reassembly. The service procedure begins with removing the valve rocker arms and continuing to remove all rocker arms means you must remove the push rod guide plates then the push rods. All components including push rods, valve rocker arms, bolts and guide plates need cleaning before checking that valve Rocker Arm bolts possess no remaining thread adhesive. The tapped holes in the Cylinder Head should be cleared with compressed air before applying fresh engine oil to the push rod terminals at which point they get installed in their factory placements on the Cylinder Head. Fasteners with correct part numbers need installation for push rod guide plates and valve rocker arms to prevent harm from imprecise tightening. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent onto the Rocker Arm bolt threads before installing the valve Rocker Arm bolts which need 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque applied and additional 90° rotation using the electronic torque angle meter (J 36660-A). After replacing the left or right valve Rocker Arm cover reinstall it along with a thorough examination of the valve train for abnormal noises.
