• Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2004 Buick Regal?

  A: First take off the valve Rocker Arm cover for the left or right side of the engine with engine top dead center alignment to keep the valves out of the cylinder space during work. Start by taking off the valve rocker arms first then push rods and finally switch the Spark Plug. Put in the j 23590 adapter into the spark port opening then use compressed air to block the valves. Insert the j 38606 valve spring compressor tool on the valve spring and compress it to take off its locks, then spring and cap pieces, before removing the oil seal from the valve stem. Check the valve spring health and switch it when you find damage. Place the new Valve Stem Oil Seal on the stem by hand until it reaches the valve guide. Later apply the j 42863 (Valve Stem Seal Installer) to properly position the seal. Place the j 38606 on the valve spring again and push down to fit the spring atop the cap. Put the valve spring and cap back along with the valve locks making sure they are in their proper slots. Let go of the valve spring tension to take out the j 23590 part and replace the Spark Plug and valve components during fixture.
