Valve Springs

Make sure the engine is rotated until the Piston in the cylinder is at top dead center before you remove the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring to stop the valve from entering the cylinder. Take off the valve Rocker Arm(s) and push rod(s), then take out the spark plugs. Put the Spark Plug port adapter (J23590) in the Spark Plug port and use compressed air to make sure the valves stay closed. Following this, put the valve spring compressor (J38606) on the valve spring and press it down. Pull off the valve locks, and then get rid of the valve spring and cap, and then take the Valve Stem Oil Seal out. To put in the new Valve Stem Oil Seal, use your fingers to push it all the way onto the valve guide. Put the seal on the stem and press it down until the seal touches the valve guide, then use the valve stem seal installer (J42863) to fit it properly. Put the valve spring compressor (J38606) on the valve spring and compress it a second time. Install the valve spring and cap, then put the valve locks in place, making sure they are seated. Release the valve spring, let the air pressure go, and then take out the Spark Plug port adapter (J23590). Put the spark plugs and the push rod(s) and valve Rocker Arm(s) back in place to finish the procedure.

The valve guide seal service needs en 46106 flywheel holding tool (EN 46106) plus en 46110 on-vehicle valve spring compressor (EN 46110) and en 46116 valve stem seal remover/installer (EN 46116) and j 39313 Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313) tools. Start by taking out the Starter motor with en 46106 fitted to stop crankshaft rotation. Repositioning the Camshaft timing system may be required if rotation happens. Unbolt and remove the camshafts plus rocker arms before taking out the Spark Plug from the affected cylinder area. Insert the j 39313 into the cylinder and activate compressed air from the connected source. Install the en 46110 above the cylinder and turn the valve spring compressor nut tightly. Turn off the valve springs keeper after putting on the valve spring compressor nut into its loose position to remove both valve spring retainer and valve spring. Apply en 46116 equipment to take out the valve stem seal. Add the en 46116 valve stem seal and place the valve spring followed by the valve spring retainer based on technical procedure en 46116. Secure the en 46110 valve spring tool over the valve spring then tighten its compressor nut before placing the valve spring keepers. Using the en 46110 you can disconnect the j 39313 from the air and take out all spark plugs rocker arms and camshafts. Turn and reinstall the Starter motor after you take off item number en 46106.

Start Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring replacement by removing both Rocker Arm assemblies and spark plugs. The engine should rotate at top dead center to stop the valve from entering the cylinder during service. A Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) should be installed into the cylinder head before compressing the cylinder with air to maintain valve closure. Place the valve spring compressor (J 38606) on the valve spring to compress it before removing the valve keys, valve cap and valve spring. The bottom edge of the Valve Stem Oil Seal requires prying to allow its removal. When installing the oil seal position it over the valve stem until it contacts the valve guide before employing the valve stem seal installer (J 42863) to ensure a leak-free fitting. The valve stem seal installer (J 42863) should push the valve stem seal over the guide before you install the valve spring and valve cap using the valve spring compressor (J 38606). Install the valve keys next. Use this installation method for all valves then follow by depressurizing the cylinder and extracting the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794). The Spark Plug and valve Rocker Arm assemblies should be installed last.

To service and fix the valve guide seal, begin with the removal of the Starter motor. It is important to install flywheel holding tool according to the en 46106 (EN 46106) standard in order to prevent an attempt to move the Crankshaft because of this movement, it can require disassembly and reassembly of the entire Camshaft timing system. Then, take off the camshafts and rocker arms and the Spark Plug from the corresponding cylinder. Mount the j 39313 (J 39313) Spark Plug port adapter onto the cylinder and attach it to a source of compressed air. Mount the en 46110 (EN 46110) on-vehicle valve spring compressor in upper position on the cylinder and tighten its nut. Remove the valve keepers and loosening the valve spring compressor nut, then you will take out the valve spring retainer and the valve springs. Utilize the en 46116 (EN 46116) valve stem seal remover/installer to remove the valve stem seal. Instead, repair with the en 46116 (EN 46116) again to install the new valve stem seals and the valve spring and retainer. Replace the en 46110 (EN 46110) on top of the valve spring and tighten its nut before replacing the valve spring keepers. Remove the en46110, disconnect the j39313 (J39313) from the air source and take it out. Finally, replace the spark plugs, rocker arms, and camshafts, remove the en46106 (EN 46106), and place the Starter motor.

The first step to replacing the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring is to take out the Rocker Arm assemblies and the spark plugs. Turn the engine until the Piston in the servicing cylinder is at the top to keep the valve out of the cylinder. Fit the j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Cylinder Head and supply compressed air into the cylinder so the valves cannot open. With the j 38606 valve spring compressor (J 38606), squeeze the valve spring, and then take out the valve keys, the valve cap, and the valve spring. Lift up the seal from the bottom to take it off the valve stem. To put it in place, place the seal over the valve stem and gently push it onto the guide using only hand pressure and the j 42863. Put the valve stem seal over the valve guide with the j 42863 and then use the j 38606 to put on the valve spring and valve cap, finishing up with the valve keys. Do these procedures for all the valves, then use the j 22794 to release the pressure and take it off the cylinder. The last steps are to put in the Spark Plug and the valve Rocker Arm assemblies.

Start your work by taking off the left valve Rocker Arm cover plus the right valve Rocker Arm cover to replace parts of the valve system. Take off the Rocker Arm units along with the spark plugs next. It is necessary to turn the engine until the Piston reaches top dead center of the serviced cylinder to keep the valve from dropping in. Fit the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the cylinder head and inflate the cylinder with compressed air to block open the valves. The valve spring compressor model j 38606 allows us to compress the valve spring. We can then remove the valve keys, valve cap, and valve spring from the mechanism. Twist the bottom part of the seal to take out the valve stem oil seal. Set the oil seal on the valve stem so it contacts the guide and apply minimal pressure using the valve seal installation tool (J 42863) to prevent damaging the seal. Install the valve stem seal with valve seal installation tool (J 42863) onto the guide followed by employing valve spring compressor (J 38606) to fit valve spring and valve cap before inserting the valve keys. Do this process for every valve before bleeding pressure and taking out the Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794). Before completion install the Spark Plug and put on the valve Rocker Arm parts with their covers.

Start work on the oil seal and valve spring replacement only when the engine reaches top dead center of the service cylinder. Start with a valve rocker cover from the right or left side to expose the components underneath. To proceed with the job take out the spark plugs that service the cylinders. Push the Spark Plug port adapter (J 23590) in its designated space on the Spark Plug while the installed air stream stops valve movement. Deepen the valve spring compressor j 38606 onto the valve spring unit to compress it. Remove the valve locks first and push down the spring compressor to unlatch the valve. Replace the valve spring and cap with the Valve Stem Oil Seal after. Check the valve spring for wear and decay. Replace the part if it shows any damage. Set the new oil seal in place on the valve stem until it reaches the valve guide surface. Push the Valve Stem Oil Seal over the valve guide with hand pressure and the valve stem seal installation tool (J 42863). Reinstall the valve spring compressor tool onto the valve spring and repeat compression. Then put in the valve spring and cap as well as the valve locks and ensure each one is fully contained. Unwind the valve spring then take off the Spark Plug port adapter (J 23590) to put back the Spark Plug(s) into the repaired cylinders. Conclusion your work by placing back the push rod and valve Rocker Arm and then fixing the right or left valve rocker cover.

First take off the valve Rocker Arm cover for the left or right side of the engine with engine top dead center alignment to keep the valves out of the cylinder space during work. Start by taking off the valve rocker arms first then push rods and finally switch the Spark Plug. Put in the j 23590 adapter into the spark port opening then use compressed air to block the valves. Insert the j 38606 valve spring compressor tool on the valve spring and compress it to take off its locks, then spring and cap pieces, before removing the oil seal from the valve stem. Check the valve spring health and switch it when you find damage. Place the new Valve Stem Oil Seal on the stem by hand until it reaches the valve guide. Later apply the j 42863 (Valve Stem Seal Installer) to properly position the seal. Place the j 38606 on the valve spring again and push down to fit the spring atop the cap. Put the valve spring and cap back along with the valve locks making sure they are in their proper slots. Let go of the valve spring tension to take out the j 23590 part and replace the Spark Plug and valve components during fixture.

Start by taking off the valve Rocker Arm and push rod then the Spark Plug before fixing the valve guide seal and replacing the valve stem oil seal and valve spring. To avoid dropping the valve into the cylinder space you must set the engine rotation to stop the Piston at its highest point tdc. Connect the Spark Plug port adapter at j 23590 to the Spark Plug port and roll out compressed air to keep the valves shut. Place the valve spring compressor tool j 38606 onto the valve spring to extract the valve keys alongside the valve spring, spring cap and valve stem oil seal. Check the valve spring condition then replace it on detection of damage. Use the valve seal installer (J 42863) to position the valve stem oil seal onto the valve stem. While controlling the operation, make sure the valve spring seats correctly against the valve guide. Repeat with the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to put the valve spring in place along with its cap and validate the valve keys. After this let go of the valve spring to position the keys correctly and take off the valve spring compressor (J 38606). Disconnect the compressed air system then extract the Spark Plug port adapter part j 23590 before replacing the plug and set-up.

Place the new oil seal over the stem until it contacts the valve guide, then use the J 42863 (Valve Stem Seal Installer) to install the seal fully on the valve guide.

Use the Valve Spring Compressor (J 38606) to compress the valve spring.

Place the oil seal over the valve stem so it contacts the valve guide, applying only hand pressure with the Valve Seal Installation Tool (J42863).

Install the valve spring using the Valve Spring Compressor (J 38606) and the valve cap.

The Valve Stem Seal Installer (J 42863).

Inspect the valve spring for damage and remove the valve stem oil seal.

Inspect the valve spring for damage and replace it if necessary, then remove the spring seal/valve stem oil seal.

Release the air pressure, remove the Spark Plug Port Adapter, and then reinstall the rocker arm and spark plug.

Finally, reinstall the spark plug, push rod, valve rocker arm, and valve rocker arm cover(s).

Attach the J 38606 (Valve Spring Compressor) to the valve spring and compress it.

Rotate the engine to position the piston at top dead center to prevent the valve from falling into the cylinder.

Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter (J 22794) into the spark plug port and apply compressed air to hold the valves in place.
