2004 Cadillac SRX Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Shock Absorber Module on 2004 Cadillac SRX?
A: First support the raised vehicle then remove the tire and wheel and next take off the shock yoke before changing the shock module. Where magnaride exists disconnect the sensor link attached to the upper Control Arm while in addition disconnect the headlamp sensors from the system. It is essential to stop the ball stud from rotating during assembly or disassembly tasks because air tools might lead to component damage but hand tools will protect the ball stud from unwanted movement. An appropriate hex-head tool allows maintenance of the upper Control Arm-to-steering knuckle nut retention as you keep the upper Control Arm positioned against the Steering Knuckle. Loosen the Control Arm-to-steering knuckle nut and then separate the arm from the knuckle before lowering the vehicle. Vehicle owners should first disconnect the shock module sensor electrical connector before removing the upper mounting bolts on the shock module and extracting it from the vehicle when working on magnaride vehicles. The new shock module requires installation in the vehicle so position it properly before tightening the upper mounting bolts to 112 nm (83 ft. Lbs.). The sensor installation process requires reattaching its electrical connector for vehicles with magnaride before lifting the vehicle up again. Screw down the upper Control Arm onto the Steering Knuckle using the retaining nut which should be tightened to 20 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) followed by 210 degrees of additional turn. Vehicles with magnaride and headlamp sensors require connecting the upper Control Arm sensor links in their proper locations. To complete the installation you need to install the shock yoke first then attach the shock to it and finally reinstall the tire along with wheel and drop the vehicle.
