2004 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the pushrod and valve rocker arm on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The valve Rocker Arm replacement starts with removing the covers and afterward the valve rocker arms and pushrods together with the pivot support will be placed on a rack to find their exact installation positions. Beginning with valve Rocker Arm bolt removal the technician must also detach the valve rocker arms, valve Rocker Arm pivot support then remove the pushrods. Prior to installing used components, examine valve rocker arms and pushrods while placing them back in their original positions because valve lash exists as net build and no adjustments are needed. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate valve rocker arms while simultaneously lubricating the valve Rocker Arm bolt flange. Place the valve Rocker Arm pivot support with pushrods correctly seated in the valve lifter sockets before installing the pushrods which should fit properly into the Rocker Arm ends. Place the rocker arms and bolts onto their designated positions without performing any tightening steps at this time. Direct the Crankshaft to reach the number one piston with its compression stroke at top dead center (TDC) where the sprocket key rests at position 1:30. When the engine holds the number one firing position, tighten the exhaust valve Rocker Arm bolts 1, 2, 7, and 8 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while the intake valve Rocker Arm bolts 1, 3, 4, and 5 receive a torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The technician must perform a 360-degree Crankshaft rotation before proceeding to tighten exhaust valve Rocker Arm bolts 3, 4, 5, 6 equal to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while also tightening intake valve Rocker Arm bolts 2, 6, 7, 8 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Put valve Rocker Arm covers into place as the last step.
