Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To change the oil pad, start by first disconnecting the front cross member of the suspension, then to drain the oil loosen the oil pad Drain Plug and tighten it until joint. In case when the Oil Pan (lower) gasket needs to be replaced remove the Oil Pan (lower) bolt (1-15) unfastening the Oil Pan (lower) from Oil Pan, and take off the Oil Pan (lower) gasket. Clean the surface of the gasket and move to remove the left mixer cover bolt and mixer cover, starter motor, and the engine Oil Filter and let oil flow. Remove the automatic transmission cooler lines at the Oil Pan, and the automatic transmission cooler lines on the right transmission, followed by bolts on the right transmission cover and cover. Re-install the engine Oil Filter until snug. Pull the bottom two flywheel housing-to-Oil Pan bolts, disconnect the engine oil level sensor electrical connector and the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector, then bolt the Oil Pan. Lower the Oil Pan and twist it to take it away from the oil pump screen, clean, and inspect the engine Oil Pan. For installation, check that oil is off all gasket surfaces, apply 5mm (0.20inch) gm U.S. P/N 12378190 sealant to the engine block at the front and rear cover gasket tabs, pre-assemble the Oil Pan Gasket to the pan and install Oil Pan, gasket and bolts to the engine block then tighten bolts to point they are snug but do not over-tighten. Mount the two bottom flywheel housing bolts with the Oil Pan in place and tighten them and the Oil Pan bolts according to specified torque values: for Oil Pan bolts torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), and for Oil Pan-to-rear cover bolts, torque of 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Reconnect engine oil temperature sensor and engine oil level sensor electrical connectors and install right transmission cover and bolt, tightening 12 nm (106 inch lbs), and automatic transmission fluid cooler line clamp bolts at Oil Pan and right transmission cover 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) and 2.5 nm (22 inch lbs.), respectively. Install the left transmission cover and bolt, tighten to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.), then install the Starter motor, and Oil Pan (lower) and gasket to the Oil Pan,( do not forget to tighten Oil Pan (lower) bolts (1-15) in a crossing pattern to 12 nm (106 inch lbs). Finally, install a new engine Oil Filter (by tightening to 30Nm (22 ft., lbs.), with Oil Pan Drain Plug installed to 25nm (18 ft., lbs.), reinstall the front suspension crossmember and check the transmission fluid; run the engine to verify it has no leaks.
