2005 Chevrolet Corvette Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Begin the Oil Pan replacement by removing the front suspension crossmember before draining the oil and then removing the Oil Filter. You should remove three main components by starting with the left rear transmission cover followed by the Starter motor assembly then lastly the right transmission cover. Remove each of the following electrical connections: the engine oil level sensor and the engine oil temperature sensor. Start by removing transmission lines from both Oil Pan ends then move to rear Oil Pan bolts and end with clutch housing to Oil Pan bolts and all remaining Oil Pan bolts. You should take out the Oil Pan from the engine block by rotating it if required to see through the oil pump pickup tube while also peeling off the Oil Pan Gasket from the engine block. When installing check that the structural Oil Pan sits correctly on the block so the rear bolt holes match up with the block's rear edge. Ban the usage of reused Oil Pan Gasket. Sealant gm p/n 12378190 or equivalent should be applied as a 5 mm (0.2 inch) bead to the tabs on both front and rear cover gaskets on the engine block surface before installing. Attach the Oil Pan Gasket to the Oil Pan before using 2 bolts to fix the Oil Pan assembly (5 and 6) onto the engine block. Position the Oil Pan Gasket on the Oil Pan and use 2 bolts to hold it in place while installing the Oil Pan assembly (5 and 6) to the engine block. Finger tighten the 2 bolts and install the mounting bolts (2 and 3) for the Oil Pan assembly by following torque specifications of m6 to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) for the Oil Pan mounting bolts and m8 to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Connect the electrical cables of both engine oil temperature sensor and engine oil level sensor. Use the correct transmission cover and bolt before tightening them to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) and proceed to tighten the front and rear automatic transmission cooler line retainers along with their bolts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). To complete the installation you must place the Starter assembly then add the left rear transmission cover and bolt together with the Oil Filter and front suspension crossmember.
