2006 Chevrolet Corvette Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To get the Oil Pan out of the car, pull the front suspension cross member which helps drain the oil out, and remove the Oil Filter. The next is to remove the left rear transmission cover, the Starter motor assembly, and the right transmission cover. To disconnect the engine oil level sensor electrical connector, pull the engine oil level sensor, and remove the transmission lines from behind and in front of the Oil Pan. Next, take out rear Oil Pan bolts , clutch housing to Oil Pan bolts , and rest of the Oil Pan bolts before lifting the Oil Pan off the engine block . The Oil Pan may have to be rotated to obtain sufficient clearance so as to remove the oil pump pick-up tube. When you remove the Oil Pan, pull off the Oil Pan Gasket from the engine block. In the installation process, the alignment of the structural Oil Pan is crucial giving the rear bolt hole positions as mounting points for the transmission housing. The rear of the block and the rear of the Oil Pan must be flush and the rear of the Oil Pan shall never protrude beyond engine block and transmission housing plane. Do not reuse the Oil Pan Gasket. Seal by applying a 5mm (0.2-inch) bead of gm p/n 12378190 or equiv., 20mm (0.8-inch), over the block to the tabs of the front and rear cover gaskets projecting into the surface of the Oil Pan. Position the Oil Pan Gasket on the Oil Pan and secure the gasket in its position using 2 bolts to anchor the oil pan assembly (5 and 6) to the engine block. Tighten the two bolts finger-tight and then install the mounting bolts (no. 2 and nos.3 for the Oil Pan assembly) to the Oil Pan mounting bolts (no. M6 and no. M8, no. 12 Nm and no. M8 25 Nm (106 inch lbs. And no.8 18 ft. Lbs.) respectively. Reconnect the engine oil level sensor electical connector, followed by installing the right transmission cover and bolt, tightening transmission cover bolt to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Mount the front and rear transmission cooler line retainer and bolts, tightening the former to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Lastly, install the Starter assembly, the left rear transmission cover and bolt, the Oil Filter and the front suspension cross member.
