2007 Chevrolet Corvette Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2007 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The process to replace an Oil Pan starts by removing the front suspension crossmember along with the Oil Filter and left rear transmission cover and Starter motor assembly and right transmission cover. Remove the electrical connector of the engine oil level sensor before disconnecting transmission lines from both the front and rear part of the Oil Pan when equipped. Make a start by removing the 2 oil cooler bolts from the assembly before taking apart the oil cooler unit from the Oil Pan. Discard the existing oil cooler seal. Remove all Oil Pan bolts starting with those on the rear then moving onto bell housing bolts before completing with the rest of the pan bolts. Then remove the Oil Pan from the engine block. To gain clearance for the oil pump pickup tube you should turn the Oil Pan. Extract the Oil Pan Gasket which sits on the engine block. During installation it is vital to achieve proper structural Oil Pan alignment because the bolt holes at the rear part serve as mounting points to anchor the transmission housing; the alignment of the rear edge between the Oil Pan and transmission housing must remain flush at all times. A proper installation requires a complete flush between the engine block rear and the Oil Pan rear and no part of the Oil Pan should extend past the block and transmission housing plane. Use of previously used Oil Pan Gasket is never acceptable. A 5 mm (0.2 in) sealant bead should be applied in a 20 mm (0.8 in) length across the engine block surface before placing it on the front and rear cover gasket tabs inside the Oil Pan. Use 2 bolts to secure the Oil Pan Gasket in its position on the Oil Pan while finger tightening the bolts. Use mounting bolts 2 and 3 for the Oil Pan assembly then tighten them to m6 torque (106 lb in) together with bolts m8 (18 lb ft). To install the oil cooler to the Oil Pan use a new oil cooler seal and place two bolts on the cooler then tighten these bolts to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Install the right transmission cover and bolt before you tighten the transmission cover bolt to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Reconnect the engine oil level sensor electrical connector. Secure the front and rear automatic transmission cooler line retainers and bolts with 12 n.m (106 lb in) torque. Install the Starter assembly together with the left rear transmission cover and bolt as well as the Oil Filter and front suspension crossmember.
