    Q:
How to replace the oil pan on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start Oil Pan replacement by disconnecting the front suspension crossmember then drain oil by removing the Drain Plug before re-installing it securely. Swapping the Oil Pan (lower) gasket starts with removing its single bolt (1-15) and separating the Oil Pan (lower) from the Oil Pan before you extract the gasket . After cleaning the gasket area proceed by taking out the Starter motor followed by the left transmission cover bolt and both the cover and engine Oil Filter. Additionally remove any automatic transmission fluid cooler line clamp bolts if equipped. Remove the electrical connectors for engine oil level sensing and engine oil temperature sensing. Then detach the Oil Pan bolt threads. After lowering the Oil Pan to clear the oil pump screen check and clean the engine Oil Pan. The installation process requires first cleaning all oil from gasket surfaces before applying a 5 mm (0.20 inch) bead of gm p/n 12378190 or equivalent sealant to the engine block and pre-installing the Oil Pan Gasket on the pan. Secure the Oil Pan and gasket onto the engine block using bolts at a level just past snug but below excessive force. The bottom flywheel housing bolts help improve Oil Pan positioning so tighten all bolts from bottom and pan to their recommended torque specifications. Reconnect the engine oil temperature sensor and engine oil level sensor connectors along with installing the right transmission cover bolt. If equipped with automatic transmission fluid cooler lines proceed to install the clamps. Position the left transmission cover and bolt then install the Starter motor and Oil Pan (lower) with gasket onto the Oil Pan. Torque the Oil Pan (lower) bolts (1-15) to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) using a crossing pattern. Place a new engine Oil Filter and apply 30 nm torque (22 ft. Lbs.) to the filter before installing the Drain Plug with 25 nm torque (18 ft. Lbs.). The crossmember of front suspension should be reinstalled while filling the crankcase with recommended motor oil followed by checking transmission fluid and performing an engine test for any fluid leakage.
