2004 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the TPMS Sensor on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Replacing the Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor begins with putting the tire's cap and valve on a clean surface since both components are aluminum and nickel plated to reduce corrosion damage. Placing the bead breaking fixture at 90 degrees from the valve stem will prevent sensor interference while the tire machine fixture or irons and sensor must maintain the appropriate tolerance space. Begin with the vehicle lift to support the vehicle before you take off the wheel and tire assembly including the tire removal from the wheel. Move on to remove both the TPM sensor nut and TPM sensor. When installing the sensor orient it so the intake is at the wheel's rear side while maintaining parallel alignment to the inner wheel surface when tightening the sensor nut to block rotational movement. Carefully space the tire machine, tire irons and sensor against the tire bead while reattaching the tire to its wheel hub. The sensor grommet sealing area on the wheel needs cleaning from all foreign matter before inserting the sensor into the valve stem hole and tightening the sensor nut to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.) for domestic vehicles or 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.) for export vehicles. To finish the process install the tire onto the wheel then reattach the wheel and tire assembly and slowly lower the vehicle before programming the TPM sensors.
