2004 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The replacement process for the negative battery cable starts by disconnecting the negative battery cable followed by the positive battery cable. After removing the ground wire bolt and ground wire from the frame the technician should remove the remote positive stud cover. You will remove the positive cable junction block lead nut and the positive battery cable from their position on the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Start by supporting the vehicle then remove the front lower air deflector and the vehicle can be lowered down. Disconnect the transaxle stud nut and ground wire from the transaxle stud before removing the positive battery cable nut from the starter motor BAT terminal. Remove the battery cable harness from its retainers (2,3,4) by unclipping them before taking the harness out of the vehicle. The negative battery cable needs removal from its position in the wiring harness conduit. Place the negative battery cable into the wiring harness conduit before fixing the battery cable harness onto retainers (2,3,4). Install the positive battery cable to the starter motor BAT terminal while tightening the positive cable nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in). The ground wire and transaxle stud nut require a torque of 25 N.m (18 lb ft) for installation followed by reinstallation of the front lower air deflector and vehicle lowering. Screw the positive battery cable to the underhood accessory wiring junction block by using its 10 N.m (89 lb in) rated positive cable junction block lead nut . Reinstall the remote positive stud cover and frame-ground wire connection by adding a 10 N.m (89 lb in) torque to their fastening bolt. Complete the procedure by connecting the positive battery cable and tightening its terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 ft lb) followed by the negative cable connection.
