2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Before working on the Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor you need to disable the SIR system. Make sure the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS) stays put on its mount before turning on power to prevent an accidental deployment or injury. Start by taking off the left door trim panel followed by shedding the water deflector and afterward the inner energy absorber pad. Start by removing the top clip from the outer energy absorber pad before pulling it away from the outer door panel. Draw out the inflatable sensor fasteners and extract the discriminating sensor gently from its location behind the mounting bracket on the door impact beam. Bring down the inflatable restraint side impact sensor by first disconnecting its wiring harness connector then extracting the sensor from the door. Begin setup by cleaning the mounting bracket surface free from dirt and grease before placing the side impact sensor into position then connecting its yellow 2-way harness. Secure side impact sensor fasteners with a torque of 10 N.m (89 lb in) using hand tools only. Installation begins by pressing the outer energy absorber pad toward the door panel before using the clip to secure it and adding the inner pad followed by the water deflector then left door trim panel. Enable the SIR system afterward.
