2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Before starting the replacement of the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor drain the cooling system until it falls below the sensor location. The ECT sensor electrical connector needs removal before sensor removal through disconnecting this component while being careful not to harm either sensor because it impacts fuel system performance. The old sensor installation requires threading sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or its equivalent onto the sensor threading. The ECT sensor must be installed then securely fastened at 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Reconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector then fill the cooling system to its required level. Replace every component with the accurate parts numbers which need to be torqued according to specific limits to prevent equipment harm.
