2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ignition Coil Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ignition coil on 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Begin by removing the air cleaner outlet resonator followed by disconnecting the Ignition Coil wire between the Ignition Coil and Distributor Cap. The electrical connectors for the Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil driver need to be removed next. The first step involves removing the throttle lever's accelerator cable slug and cruise control cable after which point both cables should be removed from the engine bracket. Detach the accelerator control cable bracket nuts before removing the bracket and attached cables from the Throttle Body area. Secure this assembly elsewhere. First remove the Ignition Coil bracket studs along with the Ignition Coil bracket followed by disconnecting the Ignition Coil and its accompanying electrical connectors. Repeat this process with the accelerator cable bracket nuts then remove the bracket. Unfasten Ignition Coil bolts/nuts before retrieving the Ignition Coil from its brackets. Put the brackets on each side of the Ignition Coil before installing and tightening the Ignition Coil bolts/nuts to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). First install the Ignition Coil and bracket and tighten its bracket studs to 11 n.m (97 lb in). Install the accelerator cable bracket next without its studs then secure the nuts to 12 n.m (106 lb in). After bracket positioning attach the accelerator control cable bracket with its cables to the Throttle Body and torque the nuts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). First reinstall both cables to the engine bracket before completing installation of the cruise control cable to the throttle lever and accelerator cable slug to the throttle lever. Attach the electrical connectors of the Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil driver while placing the coil wire nipple at an angle of between 35 and 60 degrees aft of perpendicular to the engine centerline on the outboard side of the coil. Complete the installation by attaching the Distributor Cap and Ignition Coil wire before reinstalling the air cleaner outlet resonator.
