2004 Chevrolet SSR Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: The repair process for the Fuel Rail assembly begins by removing the engine sight shield followed by cleaning the Fuel Rail assembly with gm x-30a spray engine cleaner or equivalent that needs to be used without wetting the components. The accelerator control cable and cruise control cable must be detached from their cable bracket and Throttle Body. Subsequently remove the upper engine wire harness retaining nut and disconnect the evap purge valve harness connector. Place the upper engine wire harness aside then remove pressure from the fuel system. Use the top part of each connector to correctly identify the matching injector while avoiding extending beyond the white area and use the lower tab to release it. Pull the Fuel Rail assembly carefully while watching out for damaged injector electrical terminals and spray tips before supporting it to avoid harm. Cover the fittings along with plugging holes to prevent outside contaminants from entering. The procedure to remove the Fuel Rail assembly begins with unattaching the fuel feed and return pipes from the Fuel Rail followed by fuel pressure regulator vacuum line detachment and right Fuel Rail retainer screw loosening before removing the Fuel Rail attaching bolts. Discard the injector lower o-ring seals from all system injectors before discarding them. The installation process requires engine oil lubrication of new injector o-ring seals which should be positioned onto each injector's spray tip end. Reinstall the o-ring on the crossover tube to the right Fuel Rail retainer after lubricating it. Place the crossover tube inside the right Fuel Rail before installing it loosely to the right Fuel Rail retainer. First apply a 5 mm (0.020 in) band of gm p/n 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) threadlock to the Fuel Rail bolts then install the Fuel Rail assembly to the Intake Manifold before tightening the Fuel Rail bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in) and right crossover pipe retainer screw to 3.8 n.m (34 lb in). The Fuel Rail setup requires you to join the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator together with the fuel feed and return pipes to the rail and then position the injector electrical leads correctly before rotating the injectors when needed to prevent wire harness stretching. You should first position the upper engine wire harness and then connect the evap purge solenoid connector while installing its retainer nut to the upper engine wire harness at 5.5 n.m (49 lb in). Reinsert the accelerator control cable and cruise control cable through the cable bracket while attaching them to the Throttle Body. Also install the engine sight shield mounting bracket with the bolts and apply tightness to the fuel filler cap. Finally reconnect the negative Battery Cable. After turning the ignition on for two seconds follow this with a ten-second off phase then reset the ignition to check for fuel leakages before reinstalling the engine sight shield.
