• Q: How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring in the Steering Wheel on 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

  A: Engineering direction: disable the sir system and tilt the Steering Column to the center. Take out the Steering Wheel from the column together with the upper and lower trim covers. Check the Steering Column in case of the accident if needed. If there is pad control in the Steering Wheel, the air bag clock spring and wire harness assembly must be removed and done as a single item. Otherwise, the air bag clock spring can be detached separately. Next, take away the wire harness strap and if relevant, the wire-harness assembly. The usage of snap ring pliers, a retaining ring should be removed, and then air bag clock spring needs to be removed. If necessary, you can remove the wave washer. In case of installation, install the wave washer where supported by the block tooth of assembly which can be placed at the 12 o'clock on the Steering Shaft assembly where needed. A new air bag clock spring is pre-centers so don't remove the centering tab until the installation is complete. If using an existing air bag clock spring, make sure to position it in the center first. Align the air bag clock spring with horn tower by shaft lock cam or cam orientation plate and slide on the Steering Shaft assembly. Pull out the centering tab from the air bag clock spring carefully so that the retaining ring seats safely into the race and upper shaft assembly. Attach retaining ring using the snap ring pliers. If the Steering Wheel has pad control install the wire harness assembly and then the wire harness strap. Finally, insert the upper and lower trim covers, connect Steering Wheel to the column and enable sir system.
