    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Starting a Steering Wheel module coil replacement requires disabling the sir system first. Checking that the vehicle maintains straight wheel positioning and a lock set Steering Column prevents sir coil assembly damage when users disconnect steering components from the steering gear. Put in place the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) and uninstall the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft. When dealing with a tilt column vehicle users need to pull the tilt lever directly outward. The first task requires removal of torx® head screws from the lower trim cover before removing the cover itself. Two upper trim cover torx® head screws need removal before you can remove both upper trim covers. First separate the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness before completely removing the retaining ring and air bag clock spring from the Steering Shaft. The original air bag clock spring should get discarded when you replace it. For new air bag clock spring installation keep the vehicle wheels pointed forward while the Steering Column remains in the lock position. Use the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly to align the air bag clock spring assembly. Push the air bag clock spring onto the Steering Shaft assembly while securing the retaining ring inside the retaining groove. Free the centering tab that comes with the new air bag clock spring. Periodically check the upper trim cover retention using two torx® head screws where the torque specification requires 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) tightening force. Secure the lower trim cover with two torx® head screws while ensuring the tabs from both components match each other. To install the tilt lever handle on vehicles with a tilt column users must align the handle before sliding it into the Steering Column until it locks. The final installation step involves putting the Steering Wheel on the Steering Shaft and enabling your vehicle's sir system.

    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring in the steering wheel module on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the air bag clock spring, first remove the sir system disabling it and performing the necessary precautions. Turn steering column to the center position and extract the Steering Wheel off the column. Take away the upper and lower trim covers. Examine the steering column if necessary for accident damage and then pull the wire harness strap. For example, in the event the Steering Wheel has pad control, the air bag clock spring and wire harness assembly is to be dismantled in one unit; then otherwise it can be severed off alone. For wheels with pad control, undo the wire harness assembly, then use snap ring pliers to snap off the retaining ring and pull out the air bag clock spring. If required, you should take out the wave washer. For installation,...place the wave washer back in position and align the block tooth on the Steering Shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position and if reusing the existing coil make sure it is centered prior to installation. A new coil is pre-centered, and the centering tab should not be removed until the installation is finished. Pop the centering tab off if the air bag clock spring has one. In-line the air bag clock spring with the horn tower via the shaft lock or name orientation plate, slide it onto the Steering Shaft assembly and take the tab off, then secure the retaining ring in the snap ring pliers and make sure it fits in to the groove of the race and upper shaft assembly. For wheels with pad control, install the wire harness assembly then wire harness strap, and recite the upper and lower cover on trim. Lastly, replace the Steering Wheel onto the column and switch on the sir system.

    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the air bag clock spring, disable the sir system and also remove the air bag Steering Wheel. Next you shall remove the Steering Wheel nut while taking note of the alignment mark on the Steering Shaft and the Steering Wheel. Once you pull the Steering Wheel off you are to pull out the tilt lever all the way and take off the tilt lever assembly. Pull out 2 torx(R) head screws from the lower shroud and then the lower shroud itself followed by 2 torx(R) head screws from upper shroud and upper shroud. Remove the retaining ring from the Steering Shaft and the air bag clock spring, then removing the wire harness straps from Steering Wheel column wire harness, discarding the old coil if replacing. During installation, the wheels should be aimed directly and the block tooth and centering marks should be on the 12 o'clock position. In case of centering, refer to the instructions mentioned on the notice of the coil assembly. The new air bag clock spring will be presence-centered. Tech service centering tab must not be removed unless installation is done. Air bag clock spring assembly should be aligned with horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam of the assembly and the new air bag clock spring should be slid onto Steering Shaft assembly and locked securely into groove with a retaining ring. Remove the centering tab and attach the upper shroud using 2 torx(R) head screws that should be tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in); next, attach the lower shroud and fix it with 2 torx(R) head screws also tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). For the vehicles with a tilt column, align and slide the tilt lever handle into the steering column until it locks. The wiring should be fed into the Steering Wheel, the Steering Wheel should be aligned with the Steering Shaft mark, and it should be installed, connecting the nut and tightening it to a torque of 41 n.m (30 lb ft). Lastly, mount the air bag Steering Wheel module and turn on the sir system.

    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring in the Steering Wheel on GMC Envoy? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for replacing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module air bag clock spring requires the system's sir to be disabled. Start by removing the Steering Wheel from the Steering Column before you uninstall all Steering Column trim pieces. Extract these wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly before removing the multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly connector from the column base. Remove the multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly lead from the wire harness assembly then uninstall the 3 pan head tapping screws from the multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly. If you need to replace the multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly please discard the original one because of its replacement status. The installation of the new multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly proceeds with sliding it onto the Steering Column while keeping the centering tab bound until final installation to prevent misalignment. Center the sir coil when you retain the existing assembly. Secure the assembly through 3 pan head tapping screws at 3 n.m (30 lb in) torque setting. The wire harness assembly should travel down the Steering Column before the multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly connector connects at its base. Wire harness straps need to be reinstalled onto the wire harness assembly as well. After removing the centering tab from the multifunction switch/air bag clock spring assembly install both the Steering Column trim covers together with the Steering Wheel back onto the Steering Column. Finally, enable the sir system.
