2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on a 4.2L engine on 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: To replace a 4.2l engine's Thermostat, one has to drain the coolant from the Radiator first and then take the generator out. Loosen the outlet hose clamp at the Thermostat Housing with the hose clamp pliers ( J 38185 ) and remove the outlet hose. Then, remove the Thermostat Housing bolts, and take away the Thermostat Housing from the engine block. Clean the housing of the Thermostat and the engine block sealing surface. Mount the Thermostat Housing onto the engine block making sure to follow the notice on fasteners in service precautions and, then, install the Thermostat Housing bolts to a torque of 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Apply engine coolant to lubricate the inner diameter of the Radiator hose, fit the outlet hose to the Thermostat Housing and secure it with the clamp. Reinstall the generator, fill the cooling system with the coolant and the given concentration, and finally, inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks once the engine is started.
