  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
    A: To replace the engine front cover, for starters you have to drain the engine coolant, after draining pull the engine cooling fan and shroud, then drivebelt, water pump, crankshaft balancer, and Power Steering Pump. Lift the vehicle and take away the Oil Pan before letting it down. Next, unscrew the 7 mm center bolt, and drop the other engine front cover bolts. Insert two of the front cover bolts in the jack screw holes on the front cover and tighten them evenly to release the front cover from the engine using the cover alignment pins (J 44219). Remove the two bolts from the front cover and the Oil Pump, the front cover has to be cleaned and inspected. In the installation process, apply a 3mm (0.12 inch) bead on the trace grooves on the rear face of the engine front cover (engine part number 12378521) and these three bosses on the inside of the bolt hole. Position the Oil Pump to the crankshaft sprocket splines and fit the front cover ensuring that it is done 10 minutes after applying the sealer. Tighten the front cover bolts, the center bolt should be the last to be tightened at the end of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.), and then remove the cover alignment pins (J 44219). Lift the vehicle again, install the Oil Pan, lower it, and install the Power Steering Pump, crankshaft balancer, water pump, the Drive Belt and last the cooling fan and its shroud. Card no car accessories system-fill up the engine with coolant to finish the process.
