The procedure for replacing the engine front cover begins by taking out the Water Pump and crankshaft balancer along with drive belt tensioner and Power Steering Pump and Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly. Yield the vehicle before uninstalling first the 7 mm center bolt followed by the other bolts holding the engine front cover in place. Install two bolts with threaded holes to function as jack screws that press evenly against the engine front cover to release it from the engine block. Start by installing the engine front cover bolts then remove the j 44219 alignment pins before finishing with the remaining 2 bolts which require 10 nm (89 lb in) torque and the small center bolt requires 8 nm (71 lb in). Start by reinstalling the Oil Pump pipe together with the screen assembly before installing the Power Steering Pump followed by drive belt tensioner and crankshaft balancer and finishing with the Water Pump.

To replace the engine front cover, you would require necessary tools. Get the required tools and they are: cover alignment pins (J 44219). Start by extracting the Water Pump, crank shaft balancer, drive belt tension, Power Steering Pump, oil pump pipe and screen assembly. Lower the car, unbolt the last engineer front cover bolt and the center bolt which is 7mm. Thread two bolts into the threaded holes to serve as jack screws and tighten them to release the engine front cover off the engine block; pull off the cover and the jack screws. If needed, take the Oil Pump out and clean the sealing surface of the engine block. For installation, if the Oil Pump was taken out, reinstall it. Thread the cover alignment pins (J 44219) into the engine block to assist in alignment. Apply a 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of sealer to the engine front cover, align engine pump to crankshaft sprocket splines, and place the engine front cover over the alignment pins and onto the engine block. Install the engine front cover bolts, remove the alignment pins, and install the rest of the bolts, wrench them to 10 n.m (89 lb in), and the center, small bolt last 8 n m (71 lb in). Finally, reinstall the Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly, Power Steering Pump, drive belt tensioner, crankshaft balancer, and Water Pump on.

Engine front cover replacement requires draining the engine coolant first followed by the removal of cooling fan and shroud then drivebelt and Water Pump and crankshaft balancer and Power Steering Pump. Put the vehicle back on its stand after removing the cover alignment pins (J 44219), raise the vehicle again and mount the Oil Pan, then lower the vehicle for completion. The Power Steering Pump, crankshaft balancer and Water Pump must be installed with the drivebelt and cooling fan and shroud before filling the engine with coolant.

Position the vehicle at its raised height before installing the Oil Pan followed by the Power Steering Pump and crankshaft balancer and Water Pump and finally the Drive Belt and cooling fan before the shroud installation. Complete this procedure by putting coolant into the engine compartment.

Install the engine front cover bolt, remove the j 44219, and then install two engine front cover bolts deliver out of three. Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 10 nm (89inch lbs), including tightening the small center bolt last to 8 nm (71 inch lbs). Lastly, replace the Oil Pump pipe and screen assembly, power steering pump, drive belt tensioner, crankshaft balancer, and Water Pump.

You must first remove the cover alignment pins (J 44219) and complete the installation of the Oil Pan followed by lowering the vehicle to add the Power Steering Pump, crankshaft balancer, water pump, Drive Belt and finally the cooling fan and shroud. Place coolant into the engine to carry out final completion.

Raise the vehicle and remove the oil pan, then lower the vehicle.

Remove the two bolts from the front cover and then the oil pump. Clean and inspect the front cover.

Install the front cover, tightening the center bolt last to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

Apply a 3 mm (0.12 inch) bead of sealer GM P/N 12378521 to the trace grooves on the back side of the engine front cover and on the inside three bolt hole bosses on the cover.
