• Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2004 Chevrolet Venture?

  A: Before changing the lower Intake Manifold, collect the equipment required. Torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Start with the removal of the upper Intake Manifold, then the engine left and right side valve rocker arm covers. Remove the wiring harness from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, being sure to label each Fuel Injector wiring harness exit end with masking tape for identification. Then, disconnect and disconnect the manifold air pressure (MAP), and ect wiring harness, disassemble the fuel feed and return pipe from the Fuel Injector rail, then the injector rail. It was specified to avoid to disconnect the power steering pipes/hoses from the Power Steering Pump but to move the Power Steering Pump out of the front engine cover and place it aside. Remove the heater inlet pipe with heater hose, the inlet Radiator Hose from the engine, and the thermostat bypass hose from the lower Intake Manifold pipe. Take the lower Intake Manifold bolts away and the manifold away itself, while loosening the valve rocker arms as well as the push rods. Remove the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals from the Cylinder Head and engine block and clean the several surfaces, then examine the lower Intake Manifold for any damage. Remove the ect sensor and thermostat in case of changing the lower Intake Manifold. For installation, spread an 8 - 12 mm (0.08 - 0.11 inch) piece of rtv sealer gm p/n 12345739 or an equivalent, over each ridge in the points where the front and rear of the lower Intake Manifold come into contact with the engine block. Install the lower intake manifolds with gaskets, push rods and the loosened valve rocker arms and tighten the bolt using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) by tightening the valve rocker arm bolt to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.) and +30 deg. Install the lower Intake Manifold and its bolts with the intention of tightening it in the vertical bolt first before tightening the diagonal ones to avoid leaks of oil. Sealer gm p/n 12345382 or its equivalent to the lower Intake Manifold bolt threads, and then install and tighten the lower Intake Manifold bolts in sequence to 13 mm (115inch-lbs). Reconnect thermostat bypass hose, inlet Radiator Hose and inlet heater pipe to lower Intake Manifold using heater hose. Replace the Power Steering Pump, fuel injector rail and tie the fuel feed and return pipe to the Fuel Injector rail. Make sure that the Fuel Injector wiring harness connectors are connected correspondently to their fuel injectors to prevent high exhaust emissions and bad engine performance. Last, install and connect the Fuel Injector, map, and ect wiring harness, then harness to the ect sensor, and you would put back on the engine right and left side valve rocker arm covers, before completing on the upper Intake Manifold.
