2004 Chevrolet Venture Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear steering knuckle on 2004 Chevrolet Venture?
A: The process of replacing a rear Steering Knuckle starts by supporting the vehicle while lifting it before you take off the rear wheel. Start by keeping the brake caliper connected while removing it followed by the Brake Caliper Bracket and brake rotor. Remove the Tie Rod from the knuckle before disconnecting the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm and the drive axle from the wheel bearing/hub. After removing both the park brake shoe and actuator move to position the park brake cable and bracket out of the way. Use a utility stand to sustain the lower Control Arm while removing the wheel bearing and backing plate. Begin installation by removing connections between the height sensor link and the shock absorber and the lower Control Arm and disconnecting the upper Control Arm from the knuckle. The removal process starts with using the Ball Joint/stud separator (J 41820) to free the lower Ball Joint from the knuckle before taking out the knuckle itself. Install the wheel speed sensor connector bracket onto the knuckle by using its proper bolt and nut to achieve 12 nm (106 lb in) torque tightness. First tighten the lower Ball Joint nut to 60 nm (44 lb ft) before reconnecting the upper Control Arm and shock absorber to the knuckle. Reconnect the height sensor link before you place the backing plate and wheel bearing. Connect the park brake cable end to the park brake actuator lever before bolting down the actuator and mounting the park brake shoe. The drive axle should be connected to the wheel bearing/hub before reinstalling the stabilizer shaft link and Tie Rod to the knuckle. After repositioning the brake rotor and Brake Caliper Bracket and brake caliper you should place the rear wheel back on and drop the vehicle.
