- Q: How to replace the A/C Hose Assembly on 2004 GMC Safari?A: Before starting the compressor hose assembly replacement you must collect tools which should include the halogen leak detector model j 39400-a. The first task involves the removal of air cleaner alongside refrigerant recovery and subsequent removal of grille and engine cover. You must first remove the compressor hose assembly bolt and afterwards detach the compressor hose assembly from the compressor while discarding its old sealing washers. First remove the hose clamp bracket nut from the engine stud followed by loosening the compressor hose assembly nut at the condenser before removing the compressor hose assembly nut at the accumulator. Before extracting the compressor hose assembly from the vehicle one should remove the transmission filler tube from the throttle cable bracket which requires unfastening the bolt between the transmission filler tube and oil indicator tube. Installation should begin after cap or plugging all open connections and then uncapping or unplugging those connections to reinstall the compressor hose assembly in the vehicle. Fasten the transmission filler tube to the throttle cable bracket before tightening the bolt which attaches the tube to the oil indicator tube at 12 n.m (106 lb in). The compressor hose assembly requires new o-rings before it should be attached to the accumulator where a 48 n.m (35 lb ft) torque level should tighten the nut. The compressor hose assembly requires new o-rings before you attach it to the condenser unit following a 28 n.m (21 lb ft) nut tightness setting. Insert the hose clamp bracket nut to the engine stud while tightening it to 5 n.m (44 lb in), followed by new sealing washers installation before you attach the compressor hose assembly to the compressor and tighten the bolt to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Execute the procedure by first reattaching the engine cover and grille then perform vacuum and pressure maintenance and execute halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) evaluation on the fittings before completing the procedure by reinstating the air cleaner.
