2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Oxygen Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 1 Sensor 2 on 2004 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Begin the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 1 Sensor 2 replacement process by properly supporting and lifting the vehicle at the right height. Detailed removal procedures call for disconnecting the fuel composition sensor electrical connector in addition to the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer if they exist. Prior to removing the HO2S electrical connector you must first remove any present fuel composition sensor from its fuel line clip. When performing an HO2S electrical connector replacement on vehicles equipped with 4.8L or 5.3L engines you need to disconnect the connector and repeat this procedure for 6.0L engines. Remove the HO2S. Install the HO2S with anti-seize compound GM P/N 12377953 or equivalent on the threads when reinstalling the old sensor since new sensors arrive with factory thread coating. Screw in the HO2S sensor to a torque setting of 42 N.m (31 lb ft). Mounters of 6.0L engines should reattach the HO2S electrical connector after engine work finishes but 4.8L and 5.3L engines need identical connector reconnection. A fuel composition sensor present requires a two-step connector reconnection method first connecting the HO2S electrical connector to the fuel line clip followed by disconnecting the CPA retainer and reconnecting the fuel composition sensor electrical connector before lowering the vehicle.
