2005 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Vacuum Brake Booster (LY7) on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: To replace the ly7 vacuum Brake Booster you need a j22805-b power Brake Booster holder at hand. Start by detaching the battery negative terminal and taking out the left instrument panel insulation. To disconnect the Brake Booster pushrod from the Brake Pedal you must first take out the brake apply sensor (BAS) and its retaining clip. Disconnect the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connector before taking away the exhaust crossover pipe. Step 1 disconnects all fasteners from the abs module bracket on the left front fender and step 2 extracts the module itself. Unscrew the brake master cylinder mounting nuts to remove this part from the vacuum Brake Booster and place it safely aside. Do not disconnect the brake hydraulic pipes from the unit. Connect the vacuum hose and check valve as an assembly by removing them from the vacuum Brake Booster. Empty the cooling system before taking off the coolant heater pipes from their engine position. Position the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-B) in place and tighten the master cylinder nuts before unlocking the booster and unscrewing it with the tool while turning the booster counterclockwise. Free the vacuum Brake Booster and disconnect power Brake Booster holder (J22805-B) from its installation on the booster. Put the new Brake Booster on the cowl by aligning its lockings flanges then tighten it clockwise with a ratchet on the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-B). Avoid using flat-bladed tools when turning. When you see the locking tab has engaged completely remove the power Brake Booster holder (J22805-B) from the current booster setup. Put back the coolant heat pipes while putting the vacuum hose and check valve assembly in place. Also fix the master cylinder onto the booster and fasten the retaining nuts to 33 nm (24 ft. Lbs.). Reattach the abs module bracket using its fasteners and secure all nuts to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.) torque setting before plugging in the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connection. Install the crossover exhaust pipe back then put cooling fluid in the system while joining the Brake Booster pushrod to the Brake Pedal before adding its retainer. After installing the bas unit apply 2.5 nm torque before placing back the left instrument panel housing and reconnecting the electrical battery ground.
