2005 Buick LaCrosse Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads (RPO J65, JL9) on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Before replacing the rear brake pads inspect hydraulic fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If fluid sits midway between its maximum and minimum operating marks no fluid needs removal. Reduce fluid only when it exceeds the midway point. Lift the vehicle and detach its wheel and tire parts for pad replacement. Unfasten the Wheel Speed Sensor connector from the lower Control Arm part and take off both caliper bolts at upper and lower locations. Secure the brake caliper on mechanics wire by pulling it straight from the bracket while keeping the flexible hose attached. Date the brake caliper to shield the brake hose from harm during work. Extract both brake pads that attach to the Brake Caliper Bracket. Check the guide boot of the Brake Caliper Bracket as well as clean the hardware mating surfaces on brake pads before examining retainer clips and evaluating piston boot integrity. Use a suitable spanner to rotate the Brake Caliper Piston clockwise until it reaches the full-retraction position in the brake caliper. Set the indents on the piston face with the pin on the back of the inboard brake pads then put Brake Pad retainers and all brake pads into place making sure the sensor-equipped pad goes on the inner side. Place the caliper over the bracket and check both guide boots for damage before twisting the brake caliper bolts to 34 nm tension. Reinstall the wiring shorthub then put back the tire and wheel components before lowering the vehicle. After switching off the engine apply the brake pedal smoothly until it travels 2/3 of its total distance and then lets it go. Release the brakes for 15 seconds and then repeat this step until you feel the brake pedal become strong. This procedure correctly positions all brake parts. To complete the Brake Pad installation you need to add brake fluid to its reservoir and apply friction to both pads and rotors.
