2006 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads (RPO J65, JL9) on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Before starting with Brake Pad replacement testing the brake master cylinder reservoir requires fluid level checking. Reduce the fluid when it reaches above the halfway mark between filling and draining markers. First lift and stabilize the vehicle before taking off its tire and wheel parts and lightly tightening two wheel lug nuts to hold the rotor to the hub area. Push the caliper piston into the bore using a large c-clamp that you place over the caliper housing with the arm facing the back of the inboard pad. Tighten the clamp till the piston moves into position and then remove the clamp. Turn the lower caliper bolt counterclockwise and slowly lift the caliper unit. Support it safely to prevent harming the pin boot. Pull the pads off the caliper bracket while you uninstall its two mounting slides from the unit. Examine both the disc brake part-mounts and hardware while checking for dust boot damage. Replace all faulty components and test the caliper bolts for rust, using fresh bolts if required. Place the piston at the bottom of the caliper bore through a c-clamp setup with a Brake Pad or wooden block while taking precautions to protect the piston and boot. Place both retainers onto the caliper bracket and put the pads into their hooks on the caliper anchor bracket while placing the wear sensor at the front of the outside pad. Place the brake caliper above pads then lube its pin bolt and boot inner diameter with gm p/n 18047666 product. Tighten lower bolt to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Put on the tire and wheel assembly then lower the vehicle while keeping the 2 wheel lug nuts off the rotor and hub. Place your foot slowly on the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its range with the engine power off then let it back to its normal position. Press the Brake Pedal for 15 seconds and perform the process three times to move brake caliper pistons and Brake Pad into their final position. Finish by adding brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir and running braking pad against rotor to remove sharp edges.
