2006 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J 45405 Pipe Flaring Tool Kit on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: For replacing the brake pipe, the J 45405 Pipe Flaring Tool Kit (J 45405) should be utilized and caution should be taken concerning the safety of brake fluid irritants and the application of double-walled steel brake pipes to dodge failure. Start with the examination of the area of the brake pipe intended to be replaced and release it from the retainers, if necessary. Measure off the length of the pipe to be changed that will be replaced, including bends, and add approximately 6.35mm (0.250 inch) for flares. Using the pipe cutter provided in the manual J 45405 ( J 45405), Cut the brake pipe square to a measured length. Choose the right size of brake pipe and tube nuts and unload the nylon coating around the ends to be flared with the help of the coating stripping tool supplied in the J 45405 and deburr the inner and outer diameter of the pipe with the help of the de-burring tool supplied in the J 45405. Mount the tube nuts (nut-sized metal pieces), remove contaminants from the brake pipe and the J 45405, and loosen the die clamping screw of the J45405 (profile with metal hooks). Mount the respective die set into the die cage, position the ready end of the pipe that is to be flared, and check to see that the dies are properly in place before tightening the clamping screw. Depending on the size of the pipe to be flared, employ the appropriate forming mandrel and activate the lever of the J 45405 to make a flare, then extract the dies and test the flare to see if it is of right shape and diameter (7.10mm(0.279inch) with 0.18mm(0.007inch) tolerance for 4.76mm(0/16inch) diameter pipe). Bend the new pipe into a suitable brake pipe bending tool if it's needed, keep 19mm (3/4 inch) clearance from the moving part and install the pipe in the appropriate unions. Secure the brake pipe to the retainers where left loose, bleed the hydraulic brake system, and lastly, check for leaks from the hydraulic brake pipe flares as the engine runs with brakes applied.
