• Q: How to replace the rear brake caliper bracket (RPO J5, JL9) on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?

  A: You must secure a brake caliper with assistant wire to avoid brake hose injury during installation. Pry the brake caliper off its bracket but keep the hose connected then disassemble both brake pads from the bracket and their retainers. Take out the bolts from the caliper bracket assembly and then get rid of the rear Brake Caliper Bracket. Clean all rust and loose material from the Brake Caliper Bracket surface. Before placing the parts, use denatured alcohol or equal product to clean any threadlocker residue and debris from both caliper bracket bolts and threaded areas before letting them air dry. Use threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to half the threaded length of caliper bracket bolts and let the product cure for ten minutes without gaps. Position the Brake Caliper Bracket first and tighten the new brake bracket bolts to 115 nm. Apply small amounts of silicone lube onto the brake caliper pin bolts and use it to install both the Brake Pad retainers and brake pads onto the Brake Caliper Bracket before putting on the brake caliper.
