2005 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake calipers (RPO J65, JL9) on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Begin by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before starting work. You need to drain fluid to the midway point when the level is above half full. Lift the vehicle and take off the wheel assembly including the tire. Detach service park brake lever by freeing connections at the equalizer and connector clip while removing the park brake cable from brake lever and pin. Take out the brake hose from its caliper bolt slot and separate it from the brake caliper and discard the two copper gaskets which might be attached to the components. Seal brake caliper openings with plugs to block leaks while you disconnect and take out brake caliper bolts along with the whole brake caliper. Whenever installing the brake caliper position its indents on the piston face properly on the Brake Pad pin. Inspect the entire bracket bolt guide assembly plus Brake Pad hardware before securing the brake caliper onto the caliper bracket. Make sure the guide boots are free of damage during setup. Reconnect sealed brake caliper plugs then use a wrench to tighten the brake caliper bolts to 34 nm. Connect new brake hose copper gaskets to the brake hose bolt then attach the hose to the caliper bolt while keeping the hose lifted. Tighten the bolt to 44 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Fit the park brake cable through its placed on the caliper bracket and join it to the park brake lever. A proper brake system bleed starts with pressing the Brake Pedal 2/3 of its distance while running the engine off then easing back slowly before repeating until the pedal feels solid to push at the end of the process to position the brake caliper pistons and pads correctly. Reposition the parking brake system then put back the tire and wheel unit before lowering the car.
