- Q: How to replace the electric cooling fan motor (LY7) on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?A: Start your electric cooling Fan Motor (LY7) replacement by ensuring safety through the avoidance of hands clothing and tools in the proximity of the underhood electric fan because it may turn on even after engine shut off. All bent cracked or damaged Fan Blade and housing components must be replaced to protect yourself from harm or vehicle damage. Before working with electrical components it is necessary to place the ignition key into the off or lock position while all electrical loads are off and disconnect the negative battery cable when tools approach live terminals. You must first detach the Fan Shroud assembly from your automobile. To free the Fan Blade from the drive plate turn it clockwise with the ge-47827 (GE-47827) socket while holding the blade stationary. After removing the Fan Blade replace it with new ones and cover all cooling Fan Motor access points with tape to stop more debris from entering. Drill holes into the rivet heads of the Fan Motor using a 6.35 mm (0.25 inch) drill bit followed by tapping out the rivets from the shroud before removing the Fan Motor. After removing airflow debris from the Fan Motor users should peel away tape that covers the Fan Motor entries. Secure the new engine cooling Fan Motor to the Fan Shroud with correct installation while you use front-side bolts to complete the assembly. Position the cooling Fan Motor nuts at 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) torque value before final tightening. Heat the new Fan Blade hub in hot tap water maintained at 49 degrees celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit) for 60 seconds before quickly attaching it to the Fan Motor drive plate. Insert ge-47827 (GE-47827) socket into the drive plate to rotate it according to the arrow direction for blade engagement. Follow up by aligning the cooling Fan Blade and confirmed it spins correctly before reinstalling the vehicle's Fan Shroud assembly.
