  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: In order to replace the Oil Pan one should start by removing the tires and wheels, then get rid of the oil level indicator and engine splash shields. Drain out the oil for the engine carefully while avoiding to take out the brakes calipers but instead moving them and supporting them. Then remove the retaining bolts for the struts and without any detaching the steering rack from the vehicle, move and support it too. Remove tie rods from the Steering Knuckle, the power steering lines from the cooler lines, and transmission lines, as well as battery cable wiring harnesses from their retainer on the cradle. Seecondag the speed sensor electrical connectors and remove the speed senorswiring harness from the retainer. Mount the engine supports fixture and remove the right engine mount nuts, transmission mount bolts, and engine mount struts. Remove the cradle mounting bolts, making sure to disconnect all transmission lines, power steering lines, and electrical harnesses are disconnected and moved before you drop the frame down enough to allow Oil Pan assembly removal. Unplug the oil level sensor electrical connector and remove the Oil Pan bolts, use the pry points to split the Oil Pan from the engine block before removing it from the vehicle and scraping it. For installation: assemble the Oil Pan and install it; connect oil level sensor electrical connector and lift frame. Mount the engine mount struts, transmission mounts and bolts, and right engine mount nuts and remove the engine support fixture afterwards. Connect wire harness for battery cable and speed sensor wire harness to respective retainer, attach speed sensor electrical connectors and route the transmission and power steering cooler lines into retainers. Replace the steering rack, tie rods, retain bolts for the struts and brake callipers, replace engine splash shields and oil level indicator before installing the tires and wheels and oiling the engine.
