2005 Buick LaCrosse Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left rear parking brake cable on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The procedure for left rear Parking Brake Cable replacement begins with vehicle support and tire assembly removal before disconnecting the cable from the equalizer at the rear suspension support assembly. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer that resides at the rear suspension support assembly. The Parking Brake Cable release tool (J37043) will enable you to flatten the retaining tabs on the Parking Brake Cable which is located near the equalizer. First disconnect the caliper guide bolts from the rear brake caliper before removing this component from the bracket. After that you can push the loose cable end through the wheel opening. The caliper needs to be rotated until the convex surface faces downward with the lower guide pin hole matching the upper guide pin hole of the caliper bracket. Use the guide pin bolt to pass through the lower guide pin hole of the caliper before inserting it into the corresponding upper guide pin hole of the bracket for stability. To retrieve the cable end from the caliper lever users should rotate the cable end until one of three retainer tabs becomes visible in the lever window. A screwdriver should be used to depress the visible tab through the caliper lever window while simultaneously directing the cable elbow toward the front of the vehicle which allows the cable end to slide out of the caliper lever. The Parking Brake Cable needs removal from the vehicle system. The installation process requires placing new cable into its vehicle position and inserting cable end fittings into caliper levers while securing locking tabs correctly. Guide the opposite end of the cable through the wheel opening to reach the rear support assembly while removing the caliper guide bolt before reinstalling the brake caliper correctly and tightening the guide bolts to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). The installer should mount the equalizer stud onto the equalizer nut from the assembly before they stretch the cable across the equalizer. To finish installation position the rear tire with its wheel assembly then lower the vehicle before performing the parking brake system adjustment.
